Specification of the alcohol content on non-alcoholic beer
In Germany, the actual alcohol content will soon be indicated on non-alcoholic beer. The information will be voluntary and will look something like this: “Alk.
According to the Federation of German Consumer Organizations, it is consumer deception if beer bottles are labeled “alcohol-free” even though they still contain a residual alcohol content of up to 0.5% by volume. The consumer expects with alcohol-free beer a beer which at all no alcohol and/or 0.0% vol. Alcohol contains.
For this reason, the term “alcohol-free” should in future only be used if the beer really does not contain any alcohol at all. Beer with a residual alcohol content, for example, could then still be described as “low in alcohol”.
Nowhere in the law is it written that the alcohol content of non-alcoholic beers may not exceed 0.5% vol.
